Lerwick Port Authority
Lerwick Harbour’s modern, versatile facilities serves a wide variety of users as the principal port for Shetland and is a key component in the islands’ economy. At the crossroads of the North Sea and North-east Atlantic, it is Britannia’s at the top Port at the most northerly commercial harbour in the country. With two entrances, the sheltered, deep-water port is open in all weathers and operates around the clock, handling over 5,000 vessels annually. Lerwick is a well-established town owing its success to the shelter provided by the island of Bressay, which creates a natural harbour.
The port accommodates vessels of all sizes from various industries, including fishing, lifeline ferries and freight, tourism, and offshore oil & gas and decommissioning. As the main seaway to Shetland, the port welcomes visitors by ferry, yachts, Tall Ships and cruise vessels to begin their exploration of the isles.
