Penny’s inspiration for ‘Never Lose Hope’ is worn on her arm every day, it is her tattoo and motto for life, no matter what hardships challenge us, we must be resilient, and keep hope in our hearts. These are her daughters, depicted as mermaids, in a traditional sailor tattoo style. They supported her through all the tough times. This statue is for everyone facing uncertainty.
After earning a degree in graphic design at Leeds Metropolitan University in 1991, Penny went on to set up her own art business; Hand Pict By Penny. She is now an art intervention specialist supporting vulnerable children and young people in Aberdeenshire. Over the past 20 years, she has worked with youth and community groups in various creative initiatives across North East Scotland. Penny has really loved being an artist, creating designs for the community to enjoy on local art trails; Wild Dolphins, Friends of Anchor and most recently, the Oor Wullie BIG Bucket Trail.
