Peterhead Port Authority

The modern port at Peterhead was built as a Harbour of Refuge between 1886 and 1956, amid concerns about losses at sea. By the time of completion, the refuge was no longer required, but the sheltered bay created by the breakwaters and Peterhead’s location made it ideal for servicing the North Sea oil and gas industry. It’s also now Europe’s premier fishing port.
