What is the Light the North Farewell Weekend?

The Farewell Weekend is your last chance to see all 50 large lighthouses and 90 little lighthouses together before they will be auctioned to raise money for Clan Cancer Support.

When and where is the Farewell Weekend?

The Farewell Weekend takes place at Gordon Barracks, Ellon Road, Aberdeen, AB23 8DB.

You can book a 90 minute slot on:

  • Friday 29th October 10am – 5.30pm (last admission 4pm)
  • Saturday 30th October 10am – 5.30pm (last admission 4pm)
  • Sunday 31st October 10am – 4.30pm (last admission 3pm)

Please note on Sunday 31st October, 10am – 11am, will be our quiet hour where no music will be played throughout the event site.

How much does it cost?

  • Adult (age 18 and over) £5.00
  • Child (age 17 and below) £3.00
  • Children under 2 can attend for free

What will I get to see at the Farewell Weekend?

You’ll see all 50 large lighthouses that were on the Light the North trail around Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Orkney and Shetland, PLUS 90 little lighthouses painted by schools, community groups and artists.

How long do I have to view the lighthouses when I arrive?

You’ll have a 90 minute slot to visit, take selfies and collect your lighthouses.

How do I get to the event?

Gordon Barracks is on Ellon Road, Aberdeen, AB23 8DB.
Arrival is via the main entrance off Corunna Road.

We advise travelling to the event on public transport.  You can see available routes and plan your journey by clicking here. (This link will take you to an external website).

If you’re coming by car
Nearby car parking is available at Kings Community Church (Friday and Saturday all day, and Sunday after 1pm only), Bridge of Don Park and Ride or the Beach Esplanade.

Disabled parking is available on site, you will be asked to confirm if you require this when booking your tickets.

If coming by bicycle
There are bicycle racks by the main entrance to Gordon Barracks.

Do I have to book or can I just turn up?

We strongly recommend booking to avoid disappointment. We will allow some room for walk-ups but these are not guaranteed.

Where’s my ticket?

Your ticket to the event is attached as a PDF to your order confirmation. Bring a digital or paper copy of this with you on the day please.

Will there be any Light the North merchandise to purchase at the event?

Yes! Light the North and Clan merchandise will be available to purchase. You can pre-order certain items when buying your tickets, look out for “Extras” on the checkout form. You can see all our Light the North and Clan merchandise here.

Will there be any food/drink available to purchase at the event?

Yes, there will be a Coffee Van with hot drinks and some snacks.

Is the venue accessible for wheelchair users?

Yes, the space is fully accessible, with a ramp available for wheelchair users.

Can I bring my dog?

As much as we love dogs, unfortunately we are not able to allow dogs (except Guide and Assistance Dogs).

What are your Covid guidelines for the event?

We want to keep all of our visitors as safe as possible. Please do not attend on the day if you are feeling unwell at all or are a close contact of a positive Covid case.
